Local 13 would like to Congratulate Eliot Spitzer in winning the New York State Governor Election!
2/23/2007

Local 13 is proud to have supported Eliot Spitzer in the election for Governor. Click the above headline to read Mr. Spitzer's bio.

Eliot Spitzer was elected New York State Attorney General in 1998 in a stunning upset – and he hasn’t stopped upsetting anyone who thinks they can break the rules and get away with it since then.
Eliot forced Wall Street to abandon years of unethical business practices that were defrauding hardworking New Yorkers of their pensions and savings.

He got drug companies to inform the public when their own tests reveal that a product poses a significant risk to some consumers.

He went after the Bush Administration and got it to retreat from attempts to weaken the Clean Air Act, and he made Midwestern power companies stop practices that were polluting New York air.

Eliot’s work to protect regular folks and demand accountability and fairness from business and government alike hasn’t gone unnoticed. When New York Magazine gave him their Public Service Award, they wrote, "Spitzer demonstrated that you win these fights with hard work, a zest for battle--and, most of all, with facts (and a great staff). Sure he gets headlines, but unlike a lot of people in public life, he does the work that earns them. What he gets is results."

The San Francisco Chronicle named Eliot their 2003 "Businessperson of the Year," and said he was "all about looking out for the little guy." The Wall Street Journal called his 2003 investigation of the mutual fund industry a "public service" and The New York Times editorialized, "Investors can be grateful that the attorney general is once again propelling the inquiries."

In 2002, after his landmark settlement with ten of the nation's largest securities firms over charges of misleading investors, TIME Magazine named Eliot "Crusader of the Year" and asked, "What will Spitzer do for an encore?"

Eliot Spitzer is running for governor to bring the values, determination, and passion for fairness that have defined his tenure as Attorney General to Albany. As Eliot says, he’s running for governor to “restore the greatness of New York, to make New York once again a place where everyone who works hard and does the right thing can build a great life.”

Eliot was born on June 10, 1959 in the Bronx. He went to Princeton University and Harvard Law School, where he met his wife, Silda. Eliot and Silda live in Manhattan with their three daughters, Elyssa, Sarabeth and Jenna.
